Delegation

Delegation means giving a subordinate responsibility for a task and the authority needed to complete it. For example, a human resources director might delegate responsibility for recruitment and training to a recruitment and training manager.

Delegation happens when a manager gives another employee authority to carry out a specific activity. It involves more than asking someone to complete a task: the employee can make decisions about the delegated activity.
