Span of control

A manager’s span of control is the number of employees reporting directly to them. If a store manager directly manages three supervisors, their span of control is three, even if those supervisors each manage several sales assistants.

The span of control is the number of employees reporting directly to one manager. A manager might be responsible for an entire department but directly supervise only its team leaders.

A manager’s span of control is the number of employees they directly manage. Follow the reporting lines immediately below a manager’s position to identify these employees.
