Specification B6.3c · Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 4 (Higher)
A communicable bacterial disease that commonly affects the lungs.
Link each infection to both its pathogen type and its stated effect: cholera — bacteria — diarrhoea; tuberculosis — bacteria — lung damage; Helicobacter — bacteria — stomach ulcers.
Use the full term “tuberculosis” before abbreviating it to “TB”.
For HIV and tuberculosis, describe the chain of events: HIV weakens the immune system, so the person is less able to control the bacteria that cause TB.
