Potable water

Potable water is water that is safe to drink. It is not necessarily chemically pure: it may contain small amounts of dissolved substances, but harmful microorganisms and unsafe levels of substances must be dealt with. Freshwater can be filtered to remove particles and sterilised to kill microorganisms.
