Specification B1.3f, B4.1c · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher), Paper 4 (Higher)
A reaction in which molecules join and water is produced.
Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher), Paper 4 (Higher)
A reaction that joins smaller molecules together and produces water.
Revise: Biological MoleculesJoining small units involves forming chemical bonds; a condensation reaction produces water as the units join. Breaking these bonds by hydrolysis uses water. During digestion, enzymes help break large food molecules into smaller molecules that can be absorbed.
In the water cycle, evaporation produces water vapour; condensation changes water vapour into liquid droplets; precipitation returns water to Earth’s surface.
