A focusing defect in which nearby objects appear blurred because light would be brought to a focus behind the retina.

Revise: Eye defectsA long-sighted person has difficulty focusing on nearby objects, although more distant objects may be clear. This condition is also called hyperopia. Without correction, rays from a near object would meet behind the retina.
Do not reverse the corrective lenses: short-sightedness is corrected by a concave lens; long-sightedness is corrected by a convex lens.
