Revise: Exercise ResponseLactic acid builds up in the muscles. During long periods of vigorous activity, the muscles become fatigued and stop contracting efficiently. Anaerobic respiration can therefore support activity when oxygen is insufficient, but it cannot sustain efficient muscle contraction indefinitely.
