Revise: Growth in OrganismsNew cells are produced by cell division, and some of those cells differentiate to perform particular jobs. Plants also make newly produced cells longer by cell elongation.
When comparing animal and plant growth, write matched statements: animals use cell division and differentiation, whereas plants also use cell elongation.
Do not confuse cell division with elongation. Division increases the number of cells; elongation makes existing plant cells longer.
For plant growth, give the processes in order: cell division near the root or shoot tip, elongation behind this region, then differentiation.
