Revise: Identifying time series trendsA moving average is the mean of a fixed number of consecutive observations. Averaging combines higher and lower values, reducing the effect of short-term fluctuations and making the underlying trend easier to see.
Plot each moving average at the midpoint of the time interval it covers. A four-point average lies halfway between the two middle observations.
