Voluntary euthanasia

Voluntary euthanasia happens at the patient’s request. Non-voluntary euthanasia happens when the patient cannot give consent, perhaps because they are unconscious. These describe whether the person can choose.

In voluntary euthanasia, the person requests it. In non-voluntary euthanasia, the person cannot give consent. Involuntary euthanasia goes against the person’s wishes and must not be confused with a freely chosen death.
