Paper 1
Revise: Forms of Worship and MeditationVaishnavism centres worship on Vishnu and his avatars, especially Rama and Krishna. It places particularly strong emphasis on bhakti, loving service and surrender to God. Japa, kirtan, temple worship and festivals help devotees express this relationship.
Paper 3
A Hindu tradition that worships Vishnu or one of his avataras as supreme.
Revise: Hindu DeitiesIn Vaishnavism, Vishnu or one of his avataras is worshipped as supreme. Other gods may be understood as serving him. Vishnu’s role is therefore not limited to being one of three equally important deities: devotees may understand him as the ultimate divine reality.
Compare Shaivism and Vaishnavism directly, but describe differences as emphases rather than absolute rules. Both include devotion, temple worship and mantra recitation.
