Arati

Arati, also spelt aarti or arti, is a ceremony in which a lighted lamp is offered before the deity. It can form part of puja and may be accompanied by devotional singing.

Incense is lit, fruit or other food is offered, and a lamp is moved before the murti during arati. Worshippers may sing devotional hymns, called bhajans, or say prayers and mantras. Kum-kum powder may be used to make a coloured mark on the forehead as a reminder of devotion.
