Revise: Solutions to the Problem of SufferingA theoretical response explains how suffering might be compatible with Allah’s compassion. A practical response reduces suffering or helps someone endure it. Qur’anic teachings connect these purposes: they offer reasons for trusting Allah while encouraging prayer, patience and care for others.

A reasoned explanation of how suffering can exist alongside belief in a powerful and compassionate God.
A theoretical response tries to explain why suffering exists without denying Allah’s compassion. A practical response tries to reduce suffering or help people cope with it. An explanation does not feed a hungry person, but providing food does not by itself explain why a compassionate Allah allows hunger.
