Life as a test

Definition

The belief that earthly life provides opportunities to respond to difficulties through faith, patience and good deeds, for which people are accountable to Allah.

Many Muslims understand earthly life as a test of how people respond to their circumstances. Qur’an 67:1–2 teaches that Allah created death and life to test who does best. A person experiencing hardship may respond with patience and trust; someone who witnesses hardship may respond with generosity rather than indifference.
