Revise: The Bible, Creation and ScienceThe Second Vatican Council, a gathering of Catholic Church leaders in 1962–65, gave authoritative teaching on this relationship. It is an example of conciliar Magisterium: bishops gathered in a council exercising the Church's teaching authority. Its document Gaudium et Spes, issued in 1965, addressed the Church's relationship with the modern world, including fears that religion would threaten the independence of science.
