A Catholic funeral Mass containing special prayers for the deceased and including the Eucharist.
Used by AQA
Paper 1
Revise: Funeral RiteThe Church encourages a Requiem Mass, a funeral Mass including the Eucharist. The Eucharist celebrates Christ’s death and resurrection, connecting the farewell to the central event on which Catholic hope rests. However, a funeral liturgy without Mass is also a valid form of Catholic worship.
A Catholic funeral is not one of the seven sacraments. A Requiem Mass includes the Eucharist, but a funeral without Mass is also valid.
