Prayer vigil

The Church encourages three stages: the prayer vigil, the funeral liturgy and the committal. Together, these help the community move from the first experience of loss towards a final farewell. Circumstances vary, so the stages can be combined or adapted; not every funeral follows an identical arrangement.
