Revise: Shari'ah LawQiyas means reasoning by analogy. A scholar begins with an established ruling, identifies why it applies and asks whether that same reason exists in a new case.
Explain qiyas by identifying the original ruling, the new case and the shared reason for applying the ruling. Similarity alone is not enough.
Compare named schools and their methods. All four main Sunni schools accept qiyas, although they differ over its use.
