Revise: Relationships in IslamThe nikah establishes the Muslim marriage through a marriage contract. A ceremony may take place in a mosque, at home or in a wedding hall, and an imam may lead it. Its contractual nature expresses the couple’s acceptance of a recognised relationship with responsibilities, rather than merely a private romantic attachment.
Explain how features of the nikah express beliefs: consent shows free commitment, mahr protects the bride’s rights, and witnesses provide recognition and accountability.
