An obligatory war in Jewish law, which can include fighting in self-defence.
Revise: Attitudes Towards PeaceJewish law recognises milchemet mitzvah, obligatory war, which can include self-defence. From this perspective, refusing to resist an attacker might allow further violence rather than secure peace. Deuteronomy 20:10–12 supports the broader distinction between seeking peace and absolutely prohibiting warfare; it is not itself simply a passage about modern self-defence.
