Specification 3.1.6.1 · Paper 1
Revise: Artefact and EschatologyA candle can communicate hope in the Resurrection; a painting can make judgement seem immediate; a memorial can express continuing love for someone who has died.
A memorial expresses hope for eternal life; it does not prove that the deceased is already in heaven.
When comparing memorial practices, explain their purpose: Catholics may pray for the deceased, while Reformed Protestants remember the deceased and support the bereaved without believing that their prayers change the deceased’s condition.
