Used by Edexcel
Specification 2.6 · Paper 4
Revise: MaryamMaryam is Mary, the mother of Isa, known in English as Jesus. Muslims honour her not simply because she was the mother of a prophet, but because of her own faith, purity and obedience to Allah. She is the only woman named explicitly in the Qur’an, and Surah 19 is named Maryam.
Support explanations with relevant passages: Qur’an 3:35–37 for Maryam’s birth and childhood, 19:16–30 for the annunciation and birth of Isa, and 66:12 for her obedience.
Link each quality to an event and its significance today: Maryam’s trust during accusations can encourage Muslims to remain faithful under pressure.
