Luke 1:26–39 describes the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel announces that Mary will become the mother of Jesus. God sends Gabriel to Nazareth in Galilee, to Mary, a virgin engaged to Joseph, who belongs to the house of David. Gabriel greets her as God's favoured one and tells her that the Lord is with her.
