Paper 3
Revise: Festivals and RetreatsKathina is a Theravada festival celebrating the end of Vassa. It is especially associated with lay Buddhists offering robes or cloth for robes to monks. They may also give food and other practical support to the monastery.
Distinguish Vassa, a retreat period, from Kathina, the festival of giving that follows it.
Explain a practice by linking it to a belief: for example, giving robes at Kathina develops generosity and reduces attachment.
