Revise: Sexual RelationshipsIn January 2005, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht in Amritsar issued an edict condemning same-sex marriage and forbidding gurdwaras from conducting same-sex wedding ceremonies. The Akal Takht is a major seat of Sikh authority over the community’s temporal, or worldly, affairs. Sikhs who accept this ruling regard it as authoritative guidance for religious practice.
