Interpretation

Others believe that God inspired the writer while allowing his own interpretation of Jesus’ life and teaching to shape the account. On this view, divine inspiration and human authorship are compatible. Understanding the audience, historical setting and purpose of a passage helps readers understand its meaning; interpretation need not amount to rejecting its authority.
