Acting or pleading on behalf of someone else; in debates about Muslim shrine practices, this can mean asking a holy person to present a request to Allah.
Revise: Death and the Afterlife in IslamSome visitors to the graves of holy people seek intercession: they believe that a righteous deceased person can pass their prayers to Allah and that these prayers may be better accepted because of that person's holiness. For example, some participants in annual Urs gatherings at the graves of holy people in Pakistan hold this belief. Their reasoning is that the holy person helps bring their request to Allah, rather than replacing Allah as the ultimate source of help.
