Paper 2
Revise: Holy WarA holy war is fought for a religious cause which its supporters believe God authorises or commands. Its purpose might be to defend a religious community from persecution or protect places considered sacred. Calling a war ‘holy’ expresses a belief about its religious authority: it does not establish that God actually approves of it.
- Revise: Religion as a Cause of Conflict
A war believed by its supporters to be sanctioned or commanded by God, for example to defend a faith or secure religious territory.
