Whether a reported person or event belongs to actual history; for a miracle story, whether the event really happened.

Revise: St Mark's Portrayal of JesusHistoricity concerns whether an event actually happened. This is different from asking what a story means. Someone might believe that Jesus literally stilled a storm; another reader might value the story’s message about his authority without accepting that the event happened exactly as narrated.
Distinguish historicity from meaning: questioning whether an event happened literally does not necessarily mean rejecting its religious message.
