Evolution

Evolution explains how living organisms change over many generations. Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species in 1859, explaining evolution through natural selection. Evolution concerns the development of life; it is not, by itself, an explanation of how the first life began.

Literalist creationists understand Genesis as a factual account of God creating life directly. They reject evolution partly or wholly because it appears to conflict with that account. In particular, they believe humans were uniquely created in God's image, rather than developing from other species.
