Diwali

Diwali and Holi are widely celebrated Hindu festivals. Both express the victory of good over evil, but their stories, seasons and customs differ. Hinduism is diverse, so the same festival can have different meanings for different families and traditions, including those living in Great Britain.

Diwali is the festival of lights. Its name comes from dipavali, meaning ‘row of lights’. It extends over five days and usually falls in October or November; its date changes in the Western calendar because it follows the Hindu calendar.
