Divine judgement

Divine judgement means that God assesses a person’s actions. Many Jews believe that how someone has lived, including how they have followed the mitzvot, affects their destiny after death. God is understood as both just and merciful: wrongdoing matters, but judgement is not simply an expression of cruelty.
