Specification 3.1 · Paper 1, Paper 2
Revise: The Qur'anCompilation means collecting and organising material into a written text. The traditional Muslim account distinguishes three stages: preserving the revelations during Muhammad’s lifetime, collecting them into one manuscript under Abu Bakr, and producing standard copies under Uthman.
Distinguish revelation, receiving a message from Allah, from compilation, collecting that message into a written text. Link Abu Bakr’s collection to the deaths of reciters and Uthman’s standardisation to disputes over recitation.
