Revise: Features of the DivineThe Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.9.1 presents a dialogue in which Vidagdha Shakalya repeatedly asks the sage Yajnavalkya, ‘How many gods are there?’ His answers move from 303 and 3,003 gods—a total of 3,306—to 33, six, three, two, one and a half, and finally one.
