Beit din

In Orthodox Judaism, the husband must give his wife a valid get, normally through a process supervised by a beit din, or religious court. A civil divorce in the UK ends the marriage in civil law but does not by itself end an Orthodox Jewish marriage in religious law. Both processes are therefore needed before remarriage can take place with Orthodox recognition.
