A sacred sound, also written as om, associated with the origin of the universe and used in meditation.

Revise: BrahmanRather than concentrating on the appearance of a deity, a worshipper may meditate using aum, or om. Hindus understand aum as the sacred sound associated with the beginning of the universe. A sound and its symbol can focus meditation without depicting Brahman as a human-like figure.
Link belief to practice: meditation on aum can express a nirguna understanding, while worship through a murti can express a saguna understanding.
