Revise: The Wave Equation and Measuring Wave SpeedA ripple tank is a shallow transparent tray of water. A motor-driven dipper moves repeatedly in the water to produce regular waves; some tanks instead use a manually moved dipper. A lamp makes the wavefronts visible as bright and dark strips on a screen or surface below.
