Revise: Structure ChangesIn the sixteenth century, Nicolaus Copernicus developed a heliocentric model: Earth is a planet, and Earth and the other planets travel around the Sun. This changed Earth’s place in the Solar System. It also offered a different way to understand apparent retrograde motion: as Earth and another planet travel around the Sun, their changing relative positions can make that planet seem to reverse direction when viewed against distant stars.
