Revise: Isotope Production for PETPET radionuclides are deliberately chosen to have short half-lives. This limits how long the patient remains exposed after the scan because the tracer's activity falls rapidly. However, radioactive decay begins as soon as the isotope is produced; it does not wait until the scan starts.
