Specification 4.6.2.5 · Paper 2
The point where rays parallel to the principal axis meet after passing through a convex lens, or appear to come from after passing through a concave lens.
Specification 5.4P, 5.5P, 5.6P · Paper 1
Revise: Lens PowerA converging lens, often called a convex lens, is normally thicker in the centre. It brings rays arriving parallel to the principal axis together at the principal focus on the far side of the lens. A diverging lens, often called a concave lens, is normally thinner in the centre.
A point on the principal axis associated with rays that enter or leave a lens parallel to that axis.
The point where rays initially parallel to the principal axis meet, or appear to come from, after passing through a lens.
Specification P5.3c · Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 4 (Higher)
The point at which rays initially parallel to the principal axis converge, or appear to have diverged from, after passing through a lens.
Revise: Ray diagrams and lensesRays arriving parallel to the principal axis are refracted towards the axis and meet at the principal focus on the far side. It is therefore a converging lens.
Paper 1, Paper 2
The point at which rays initially parallel to the principal axis meet, or appear to spread from, after passing through a lens.
