A situation in which the resultant force on an object is zero.
Revise: Resultant forcesIf several forces are in equilibrium, their vector arrows form a closed shape when arranged head to tail: the finishing point returns to the starting point, so the resultant is zero. For equilibrium under just two forces, the forces must be equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
- Revise: Pressure in a fluid 2
A state in which the forces on an object are balanced, so the resultant force is zero.

- Revise: Our solar system
A balanced state in which the inward effect of gravity equals the outward effect produced by energy from fusion, so the star remains stable in size.
