Revise: Domestic Energy TransfersA battery-powered device draws on the battery’s chemical energy store: as the battery runs down, energy is transferred electrically to the device. A device plugged into the a.c. mains receives energy electrically from the mains supply. In either case, moving charge carries energy through the circuit and transfers it to components.

Treat the mains as an electrical supply, not an energy store. For a battery-powered device, you can name the battery’s chemical energy store.

In a battery-powered device, the battery’s chemical energy store decreases. Energy is transferred electrically through the circuit to the appliance. For example, in a battery-powered electric toothbrush, energy is transferred from the battery’s chemical store to the kinetic store of the motor and brush head.
