Paper 1
Revise: Planes and axes of movementForwards-and-backwards movements occur in this plane, including bending and straightening at joints. Its matching transverse axis runs from side to side through the body.
Paper 1
An imaginary horizontal line running through the body from side to side, around which movement in the sagittal plane occurs.
Revise: Movement Planes and Rotation AxesThe corresponding transverse axis is a horizontal line running through the body from side to side. A front somersault in trampolining takes place in the sagittal plane around the transverse axis. Imagine a line through the performer’s hips from left to right: the body turns forwards around it.
Name both the plane and the axis when asked: sagittal plane–transverse axis; transverse plane–longitudinal axis; frontal plane–sagittal axis.
