Paper 1
Revise: Planes and axes of movementTurning movements occur in this plane. Its matching longitudinal axis runs lengthways from head to feet.
Paper 1
An imaginary vertical line running through the body from top to bottom, around which movement in the transverse plane occurs.
Revise: Movement Planes and Rotation AxesThe corresponding longitudinal axis is a vertical line running through the body from top to bottom. An upright ice skater performing a full spin moves in the transverse plane around the longitudinal axis. The skater turns around a head-to-toe line rather than tipping forwards or sideways.
Name both the plane and the axis when asked: sagittal plane–transverse axis; transverse plane–longitudinal axis; frontal plane–sagittal axis.
Do not match planes and axes simply by their names: the transverse plane pairs with the longitudinal axis.
