Revise: Prohibited substancesStimulants increase activity in parts of the brain or body. They can increase alertness, shorten reaction time and reduce feelings of tiredness. This could help a performer notice a stimulus and respond more quickly.

Revise: Drugs in sportStimulants raise physiological arousal by acting on the central nervous system. They increase alertness and concentration, reduce feelings of fatigue and can increase aggression and competitiveness. They can also reduce reaction time, meaning the performer responds more quickly to a stimulus.
Do not assume that every stimulant is prohibited: caffeine is a stimulant, but it is not a banned substance.
Stimulants reduce reaction time: a shorter reaction time means a faster response.
Do not assume that every performance-enhancing substance is banned or illegal. Caffeine is a stimulant but is not automatically prohibited in sport.
