Revise: Cardiovascular System Structure and FunctionThe septum is the wall separating the right and left sides of the heart. It prevents the deoxygenated blood on the right side from mixing with the oxygenated blood on the left side. Blood therefore travels between the two sides through the pulmonary circuit, rather than directly across the heart.
