The weight or resistance that a lever must overcome, such as body weight or the weight of sporting equipment.
Revise: Lever systemsThe load is the weight or resistance being overcome. It can include the weight of a body part as well as equipment.
Identify the middle component: first class = fulcrum, second class = load, third class = effort. ‘Middle’ means between the other two components, not necessarily halfway along the lever.
Explain a lever class by identifying the positions of the fulcrum, effort and load, not just by naming the joint.
