Revise: Narrative and Propp's character typesThe useful distinction between a helper and a donor is direct assistance during the quest versus providing something that enables progress.
Component 2
A narrative role identified by Propp: a character who assists the hero in pursuing a goal or overcoming an obstacle.
Apply theory to evidence: explain why the women can be understood as Propp’s heroes and the artists as helpers, rather than simply naming Propp.

A hero pursues a goal; a helper assists that pursuit. Bahri, Marcy and Angela can be read as the heroes because their ambitions organise the narratives. Bieber and Quavo act as helpers: Bahri receives a car, Marcy and her friends receive backpacks containing school supplies, and Angela receives studio time for her creative work.
