A value of the variable that makes an equation true. A solution of a quadratic equation is also called a root.

Rearrange the equation so that one side is exactly zero before using the factors to find solutions.
Set every variable-containing factor equal to zero; a quadratic will often have two solutions.
Do not divide by the variable: this can remove the solution where that variable equals zero.
