Replace each inequality sign temporarily with to find and draw its boundary line.
Do not use a point on a boundary line as a test point: it cannot tell you which side satisfies the inequality.

The line where the two sides of a graphical inequality are equal; it separates points that satisfy the inequality from points that do not.
Find the equation of each boundary line, using two points on a sloping line if necessary. Then use its solid or dashed style to decide whether equality is allowed. Finally, choose a point inside the required region to decide which inequality sign gives the correct side.
